A big thanks goes out to a number of people that have been good enough to share their knowledge with everyone. In this post we are looking at some of the more common problems that seem to dog the 4-speed automatic transmissions fitted to EA-onwards Falcons.
This can be caused by a number of things, excessive fluid temperature, a faulty throttle position switch or selector switch, the list goes on.
I lost count of the number of sealed transmission that we saw that had never had a fluid and filter change and despite what you may have been led to believe, a sealed transmission does need to be serviced. Every 20,km is a good yardstick to go by. With a typical automatic service the pan is dropped, the filter is changed, the pan put back on and the trans. While this is better than nothing at all, it does leave an amount of old fluid behind in the torque converter and places like that which is why a complete flush of the auto every 50,km is also a good idea.
The best thing you can do here is to bypass the factory cooler and fit an aftermarket cooler, or two. Paul tinntter was kind enough to send through some pics and diagrams of how he fitted two original Ford external trans. You can read this here — Falcon Transmission Cooler Installation. This is very important as Dexron 3 will not do your 4-speed auto any good.
Also if you find that the filler plug on your dipstick-less Falcon trans.Bypass safety circuits and start your car or truck
It may take a while but unless you can weld a bigger nut to the filler plug or something like that it may just get you out of trouble! I changed the neutral inhibitor switch with no avail. I fitted a second hand gear box over the weekend, first draining all the oil out of the replacement gearbox and torque converter, and also changing the filter.
Maybe I should of bitten the bullet when I first got the car, when the tranny was full of coolant, and wasting so much time flushing the fluids.
It would be worthwhile checking the oil level. Are there any puddles underneath the vehicle? To check the oil level there is a 16mm plug on the drivers side of the box. Hi i have the same problem on my 97 EL when cold the trans is perfect but when it warms up every now and again it wont change down gears it just vibrates when slowing down so i change it down manually and then its fine.Wiring up the neutral switch in a Ford Falcon manual conversion is a commonly overlooked item.
In this quick guide we show how to wire it up. This helps with idle speeds, and fuel cutoff when coasting amongst other things. To assist with this, the T5 manual has a neutral switch as shown in the picture to the right. There are only two pins on the switch; one should be connected to earth and the other to the ECU input. You would find idle behavior issues and return to idle would not behave correctly. The ECU has strategies to prevent a stall when coasting for example.
Your email address will not be published. What effects on drive ability would I have if the switch was constantly connected to ground? Cheers, Jason Reply. You should find all E-Series T5s have the switch. I have an Au v8 5 speed manual without the switch.Aliados del tiempo mariano barba letra karaoke
What do i do in that case? Wire it up per factory. Leave a Reply Want to join the discussion? Feel free to contribute! Leave a Reply Cancel reply Your email address will not be published. Instagram T.

About T.All modern cars equipped with an automatic transmission have some sort of neutral safety switch to prevent the car from starting while in gear. The neutral safety switch on most vehicles attaches either to the shift mechanism on the outside of the transmission, or to the shifter mechanism itself. Failure of this switch with prevent the engine from starting under otherwise normal conditions.
While specific designs vary, the neutral safety switch usually acts as an interrupter between the starter relay and the starter, or the key and the starter relay. During normal operation, the switch's internal circuit will only close while in neutral or park. In no other position will power make it from the ignition key to the relay or the relay to the starter. If your vehicle's starter does not engage in any way when you turn the key in park or neutral, the neutral safety switch may be at fault.
The neutral safety switch is an important component in preventing injury and death, so it may be part of your vehicle's diagnostic circuit. Your manufacturer may have incorporated a feedback circuit into your starting system or transmission, allowing the computer to diagnose the problem and notify you via a check engine light.
If you suspect a faulty neutral safety switch and your check engine light illuminates, have a technician read the codes with a scanner. Many chain auto parts stores will pull and clear your vehicle's codes for free, but you'll have to get it there first. Modern neutral safety switches are a default-off design, meaning that if the switch fails it will immobilize the vehicle instead of allowing it to start in gear.
Still, it's not impossible for contacts to cross over due to moisture in the switch, metallic debris, physical damage, metal shavings from wear or any number of other faults. If this happens, the power side of the switch terminal will short against the housing or power-out terminal to the starter, allowing the vehicle to start in gear.
Older neutral safety switches may not incorporate a default-off design, so failure can manifest as a constant-on and starting in gear.
One way to diagnose a bad neutral safety switch is to place the shifter into park or neutral, then try to start the engine while gently wiggling the shifter so that it almost goes out of gear. This will engage a different part of the contact inside your switch, allowing power to go through to the starter relay. If your vehicle only starts while wiggling the shifter, then you need to replace the neutral safety switch.

If not just plug a resistor into the neutral switch plug I ran mine with a resistor jammed inside the plug not sure on resistor value for a while.
I didn't cut or solder any part of the auto loom for the resistor trick. I just bent the ends of the resistor so that they fit snuggly into the auto and neutral plugs. Haven't had any issues with it since Post subject: Re: bypassing the neutral switch Posted: Sun Apr 03, pm. Getting Side Ways. The neutral inhibitor switch and reverse switch is in the same plug, without attending to this a you can't start it and b you won't have reverse lights.
Do it properly, finish it off, then enjoy. Saves many dramas later on. Also if you have thermos and don't do the resistor trick for the temp sender your thermos will be on all the time. It would pay to read some of these then you can finish it off in about 10 minutes when you have the right resistors which cost around 2cents each. Heres a tip gasdea, dont use search on here, use google, type your search query ie 'neutral safety switch AU' then add www. You will get all the threads that way and generally it works better than the search function on here as the search person on this site is a retard Post subject: Re: bypassing the neutral switch Posted: Mon Apr 11, am.
